On October 15, early in the morning, the island of Bohol was hit by an earthquake. Its force was 7.2 on the Richter scale and it took place in the middle of the island. One of Kapatiran’s board members lives at 40 kilometers’ distance, but at the moment of impact he happened to be in the island of Mindanao, further South.
Many houses, roads and bridges were destroyed and electricity and communication broke down in Bohol, Negros and part of Cebu.
A second Kapatiran board member spends the winter in the island of Negros and had to take refuge to a hotel because of the electricity breakdown.
There were over 200 casualties and in total over 3 million people were affected in one way or another by the earthquake.
